Exchange & Refill Policy

AmeriGas supports both exchange and refill for propane tanks. You can return your empty grill tank to a participating retailer and exchange it for a full one in a single transaction. Many retailers also offer refilling of existing tanks where permitted. Under their cylinder exchange program, AmeriGas accepts customer cylinders at no additional charge.

Exchanged cylinders are inspected and either replaced or refilled before being placed back in circulation. Tanks and cylinders stored by AmeriGas remain company property or are leased, and customers must properly surrender them if agreements end. The company inspects exchanged cylinders and ensures safety standards are met before resale.
