Walmart's History
Walmart was founded by Sam Walton in 1962, when he opened the first Walmart Discount City store in Rogers, Arkansas. The company was incorporated as Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. the following year, and it went public in 1970. During the 1970s and 1980s, Walmart expanded rapidly, opening new stores across the United States and entering new markets, such as Mexico and Canada.
